Don’t you just love this time of year? Christmas is my favorite holiday. I love the bright, happy colors and all the decorations. Winter weather, complete with a fresh blanket of snow makes me very happy:)
Over the years, I have made several Christmas or winter-themed quilts. One of my favorites is this wall quilt adapted from a pattern by Becky Goldsmith and Linda Jenkins called “Welcome to the North Pole.” This Christmas village is one of my favorite quilts! I started with their pattern in the bottom row of my quilt, and then I just went rogue! Designing and adding buildings and embellishments to represent my family and who we are was a fun challenge.
A coffee shop represents my daughter, daughter-in-law, and I because we all worked at a coffee shop at one time. My son’s building is a camera because he is a videographer. I included a sewing machine (quilt shop) as an homage to my mom’s quilt shop and my longarming business. There are little construction buttons for my husband who does construction engineering work and my dad, who also did road construction work. I included a theater for my daughter who has a Master’s Degree in Theater Costuming and works in Las Vegas and some little money buttons to represent her husband who is a financial advisor for Thrivent. My three grandkids are represented by three coffee cups buttons on the coffee shop.
It is such a fun Christmas quilt, and every time I hang it up, it makes me smile. Now, I would call that a successful quilt:)
